Tyrion and Jorah have been whitewashed since the beginning of the show. Book-Tyrion is a fool when it comes to Shae (obviously book-Shae had different motivations), he's jealous (only hired extremely ugly guards to protect Shae), and he's willing to do dark things (singer stew). And Book-Jorah isn't the kind/compassionate guy he is in the show.
Well I just finished my second rewatch of the show after watching it for the first time in August (I’ve become obsessed). Now I just got the first…
It's not really fair to compare the two, especially since the show has veered away from the books in many ways (though still keeps other things right on target). I've read the books, I watch the show. I don't think one is better than the other. I love them both!

The Chung Kuo series by David Windgrove. It's the Chinese ruled science fiction future and tensions flare between those who want to preserve the old order and those who desire to change or destroy it. Game of Thrones, on the other hand, takes all those tropes and turns them on their head. Good people get their heads chopped off and evil people win. Power corrupts. Family will betray you. It's a very nuanced, much more human approach to fantasy, painted in shades of gray. So they're both worth reading--it just depends what you're in the mood for.
BB can be very corny at times so beware but the ending is worth the whole show, the wire i never watched but i hear excellent things. game of thrones should be watched last because it has the most content to digest out of all the shows. seriously with breaking bad you can almost just start watching from season 3. game of thrones is like a marathon

Avid show watcher, recently started reading the books for the first time. I just finished ASOS, and I hated how Jamie and Tyrion left one another in the book. I understand that this isn't meant for our enjoyment, but Tyrion comes off as incredibly ungrateful. And he lies about killing Joffrey which gained him nothing
